SAR Fundamentals (e-SAR) Course 0432-01
<http://64.207.134.26/usr/moodle/course/view.php?id=85>  should be of interest to any participant in boat crew, Aux Air, or mobile comms programs.

This course is divided into three modules.

Module 1 - SAR Organization - provides familiarity with the overall Search and Rescue system, roles and responsibilities  within, legal implications, and public affairs.  It is based on real life SAR cases and will require you to make  judgments on the given facts.

Module 2 - SAR Planning - involves the application of skills and knowledge of SAR planning.  You will be required to use the information on the execution of a search and rescue case, including communications, search patterns, and environmental effects.  It will present SAR cases and will require you to take actions.

Module 3 - SAR Coordination and Execution - involves the coordination and execution of a search and rescue case.  It provides examples of SAR cases that present information related to the duties of the On Scene Coordinator with the progression of actual SAR scenarios.  These scenarios will lead to a final SAR exercise.  You will be asked to respond to these situations by providing the most appropriate actions to be taken.  The SAR exercise will help prepare you for final exam.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary recognizes four membership levels.

1. Approval Pending (AP): An applicant has completed and submitted all of the application paperwork defined in Chapter 3 of the Auxiliary Manual COMDTINST M16790.1F and is awaiting a Favorable Personnel Security Investigation (PSI) determination.

2. Initially Qualified (IQ): Once a member has attained a favorable PSI determination, DIRAUX will change the member’s status in AUXDATA from AP to IQ. A member will be listed as IQ only if he/she has satisfied all the requirements stated above, has received a favorable PSI but has not taken or passed a recognized Boating Safety Course (see the Auxiliary Manual COMDTINST M16790.1F Chapter 8, Section B.1.a & b).

3. Basically Qualified (BQ): Members who have taken one of the recognized Boating Safety Courses and have received a favorable PSI will be listed as BQ. This level of categorization is necessary to participate in Operations programs.

4. AUXOP: A member may also obtain the prestigious level of AUXOP by completing the requirements outlined in the Auxiliary Manual COMDTINST M16790.1F Chapter 8, Section C.1.
